Toomata Ah Ki, Agriculture Store Corporation looking over the designs of the renovated building theey will be moving to before the end of the year.

The Agriculture Store is packing up and moving out of its location at Matafele to make way for new building developments Government has in the pipeline for that part of Apia.
The Corporation will be re-locating to its Vaitele land property fronting the busy west coast road to Faleolo International Airport.
The re-location should be completed by the end of the year, and it is a move that could not come any sooner for Corporation boss, Toomata Ah Ki,
“Right now we don’t have parking space for our customers and they complain about having to make the long walk from wherever they are forced to find space to park.
“Our new location is better for us because it will allow for a larger parking space and also make it possible to display all our stocks,” Toomata says.
“ We are currently using our property at Vaitele to store most of our stock because we don’t have space for them in the shop, but we will be renovating our building there to allow us the space we want.”
The $800,000 tala renovation work is already being lined up but CEO Toomata is hoping to keep some of the services operating from their old location if possible.
“We have a piece of land next to the Fugalei Market to build an outlet in town if we have to but that will depend on how things turn out.”
The Agriculture Store was originally a division of the Ministry of Agriculture and was basically responsible for selling agricultural chemicals and tools at subsidized prices for farmers.
It became independent in 1975 and now operates as a Corporation with a staff of 36. It has however stuck with the identity of the Agriculture Store when it has already expanded its range to included other products like home ware.
“We are still selling agricultural products like before but our prices are no longer subsidized, it is now open competition against other outlets who sell them.”
While the Corporation has expanded its range to include hard ware and other products, they still continue to trade under the Agriculture Store name.
CEO Toomata is unworried about any loss of customer by moving away from the centre of town.
“Vaitele is developing into a township with more and more businesses moving there, there are plans now for a second market to be built there so the location is not going to be a problem.
“Remember we will still have an outlet in Apia also so the service will still be there for our town customers.”
