CSL Boss Fires Broadside At SamoaTel rival

CSL Boss Laeimau Oketevi Tanuvasa Savea (centre and in white) with her staff at the launching of the new wireless broadband connection on Friday. The Chief Executive Officer for Computer Services Limited, Laeimau Oketevi-Tanuvasa Savea, wants the international gateway allowing other phone companies to open here in Samoa. She made the statement on Friday at the launching of the new service the company is offering for internet connection through the faster Zoom Wireless Broadband. Laeimau was critical of its rival in the new broadband service, for operating at an unfair advantage as the sole provider of land based phone lines in the country. “They are operating in a monopoly and therefore set their own prices, which unfortunately some people cannot afford,” she claimed. She felt that if this international gateway were opened there would be other phone companies set up in Samoa and the prices would be lower. Laeimau further claimed that there are a lot of other telecommunications interested in setting up business in Samoa but cannot do so. The competition between Digicel and Go Mobile was an example she gave. With the two cellphone providers competiting against each other the prices are far cheaper than they were when it was only Telecom providing mobile phone service connection in Samoa.
