Digital War in Samoa

Competition in the mobile phone market in Samoa continues to heat up as SamoaTel and Digicel battle it out with lower rates and lower priced phones When the open market was opened up in Samoa, it was expected to generate some competition. However no one thought the phone companies will push the boundaries in offering better and low priced services in a very aggressive way. SamoaTel who had the monopoly for a number of years until last year, when Digicel entered the market was slow to get into the competitive spirit. However, SamoaTel in the last few months has quickly lifted the competition by offering low priced phones which are even lower to those selling overseas. SamoaTel has now also offerred its customers to talk for 30 minutes for local calls and pay only 99 sene.
