Susan Haggett is Samoa Tel’s new General Manager for Corporate Services

Susan Haggett is Samoa Tel’s new General Manager for Corporate Services; here under a two year contract she replaces Dan Cameron in the role.

Susan Hagett told Newsline that the post was vacant for almost 12 months and she started with Samoa Tel on the 10th December 2007.

Haggett explains the challenges of the new post and her love for the place that will now be home to herself and her family.

“There are inherent challenges in working with the Regulator and the Government to ensure that the Samoan telecommunications market is competitive so that Samoans enjoy greater choice of more innovative services at reduced prices,” says Haggett.

Haggett explains that she has been involved in telecommunications for many years now, “Having had more than 12 months experience in telecommunications regulation around the world, I enjoy these challenges.”

Aside from that Haggett also faces the challenge of understanding and working within the Samoan culture.

Haggett says that apart from the job the overall experience of Samoa has been fantastic with the highlight of her stay so far being a trip to Savaii during the Easter weekend.

When asked if she and her family had any difficulties adjusting to a new environment Haggett was adamant to say, “not at all.

“Samoa is such a beautiful place and very welcoming, the lifestyle suits us perfectly, as a family we love to spend a lot of time outdoors and at the beach and my husband loves to surf.

Recently we returned from living and working in Switzerland for 6 years, so we are use to adapting and enjoying new places.”

Haggett adds that the main difference between Australia and Samoa (aside from development) is the language.

“My Samoan lessons will be starting soon, also the depth of the Samoan culture and tradition.”
