A female employee cries in shock and hangs on to fellow employee while walking away from the source of the blasts.

Guests and workers stand and watch the commotion.

Workers at the Aggie Greys Hotel in town ran out screaming yesterday morning after loud blasts and smoke erupted from the building which hosts the main transformer of the hotel.
The employees scrambled for safety away from the back section of the resort as loud bangs were heard from the building next door to Aggies.

Witnesses say what looked like electric bursts were seen at around 9:40 in the morning from the top of the Aggies Gift shop building.
Shortly after the lights and power supply to the hotel were cut off.
The Fire Fighters arrived a few minutes later to the scene and sirens blared through that part of town while the emergency response team identified the source of the problem.
Shortly after the sirens were heard, five loud blasts were heard from the source of the smoke, and people started running from the back onto the street.
Guests and hotel workers were soon evacuated, elderly guests were escorted by workers as everyone gathered in front of the hotel watching as more smoke erupted from the building.
Police and fire fighters blocked off the main street and helped evacuate the building before they settled to contain the smokes from the building.
Another fire truck arrived at the scene at around 10:00am.
A statement could not be obtained from Aggies and a Fire Station spokesperson could not be contacted for comment.

*The reporter was at the scene when the incident occurred.

If smoke is loud, does that mean fire is deafening?
