LADY BOSS : Newly appointed Chief executive Officer of the Samoa National Provident Fund, Ms. Esther Lameko Poutoa.
At the relatively young age of 37 years old, the new Samoa National Provident Fund boss, Ms. Esther Lameko Poutoa, is acutely aware of being amongst the youngest to hold a top executive post.
Ms. Lameko Poutoa, was the youngest of the four candidates, short-listed to determine the new NPF Chief Executive Officer.
“Being the youngest was my main concern, but I was determine to concentrate the focus on my ability and the potential that I can offer the job,” she told Newsline yesterday.
Her success however has not rid the uneasiness she holds about her age.
The new twist of being in the executive seat, is the responsibility of being the new flag bearer for all the ‘young’ aspirants eager to follow in her footsteps and others like her.
“The challenge of being a ‘young executive’ is to prove that we are equally capable of doing the job and that age has nothing to do with it.”
The new NPF boss was officially informed of her appointment on Friday afternoon.
“I was ecstatic and thrilled with the news, and I was thankful to God for the opportunity – I am a person who believes that God has a plan for my life.
“If I hadn’t received this job then I would have finished off my contract with the NPF and move on to do something else because I know this was not for me.”
Ms. Lameko Poutoa, joined the public service after graduating with a Master’s degree in Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales in Australia, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, from the University of the South Pacific.
She also holds several diplomas and certificates in auditing and accounting, as well as holder of several executive positions in the various organizations related to her accounting profession.
Being a young CEO is not the only career distinction she has added to her resume. She now adds her name to a growing number of women, who have worked their way to the top.
“As a woman I don’t want any special treatment. What is more important for me is to compete in a man’s world and to be accepted according to a man’s standards.
“I don’t see being a woman in a man’s world as an advantage or disadvantage, I owe my success to being a graduate of university studies.
“I wouldn’t be where I am now if I had not worked hard to get something or to get somewhere, rather than just to get by.”
Ms. Lameko Poutoa is the eldest of two daughters in a family that included 4 brothers, of veteran Member of Parliament Tuiloma Pule Lameko and Meilini Lameko.
She is married with 4 children.

Congrats!! It is an awesome witness for young women to know that you can make a difference in this world. I don't know you Ms Lameko, but I am proud of the fact that you have set the bar for the youth of Samoa. Women have come a long way in all aspects of the Samoan life and also in the Samoan Business life. I may sound feminist but it is a true reflection what true samoan upbringing. We never thank enough for those who who paved the way for us, parents, families and loved ones. Women are like second class citizens all over the world which is fading away because of people like you. My mother is a chief and I am proud that she have the courage, leadership not just to lead in a village but in the family, church and in the world. Best Regards Sului all the way from Minnesotta,USA.
