The Samoa National Provident Fund has made it easier for its members by opening up a new building with all its services at Vaitele Industrial zone.

The NPF opened its new $2.8 million two storey building at Vaitele on Friday morning this week with the keynote speech by the Prime Minister Hon Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi

The building will house NPF’s operations on the top floor while the bottom floor will be taken up by business tenants, among them the National Bank and Westpac Bank. The project also includes the construction of a storage facility behind it, which will soon house a number of important records and NPF documents. The growth of the Vaitele industrial zone has meant NPF’s presence in the area was necessary. The country’s biggest employer, Yazaki is just meters from the new complex.

SNPF is a compulsory savings scheme for employees (members) established in 1972.
It has been entrusted with “safekeeping of members’ contributions and to generate from the resources provided by these contributions the greatest achievable benefits for members and their dependents during retirement or in the event of earlier death or incapacitation.”
Contributions to SNPF are made by employers on behalf of their employees. It is 10% of the employee’s gross salary (5% from the employee + 5% from the employer).

The Fund underwent major restructuring in its first Corporate Plan Period 1998 – 2000 which resulted in the creation of four major departments:
• Members Services
• Investments
• Finance
• Corporate Services
A significant achievement of the first plan was the increase of interest credited to members contributions balances from 7.5% to 8.0% at the end of 2000. The Fund launched its 2nd Corporate Plan 2001 – 2003 on Thursday, May 31st 2001 incorporating new challenges and shifting focus in the new millennium
