New SBC-TV Owners Still Long Ways Off PDF Print E-mail

The bidding for new owners of the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation, has stalled about mid-way through the process, and it is unclear if it is still on schedule for a decision at the end of November.
Public attention went into overdrive last weekend over media reports that a winning bid has been decided.
“We’ve postponed the opening of bids,” is the terse response from senior government officials involved with the multi stage bidding process, when asked for an explanation.
The privatization of the Government owned SBC, began several weeks ago with a call for expressions of interest from those interested in buying out the Government owned Corporation.
The list of interested applicants was screened and eventually some of the bids did not crank up to expectations and missed the short listed cut.
The process then moved into what is called the indicative bidding stage, where it has now stuttered to an undisclosed ‘postponement.’
If and when it starts up again, the bidding process should then move into what is called ‘due diligence’.
This is the part where financial information and other related aspects to owning SBC are disclosed to the bidders, to help them revise their bids if they should decide to continue into the final stage.
The serious biddings are scheduled for the first two weeks of November where the bidders submit their best and final offer to win the nod of approval from Government.
Contrary to ‘media leaks’ there is still a whole month or more to go before the final decision is final.
The recommendation by the Tender Board responsible for reviewing the bids will go to Cabinet where the final approval is made.
The winning bidder will own the popular SBC-TV and SBC-Radio Station at Mulinu’u.
