INSET : EPC Boss Muaausa Joseph Walters

A combination of unusually dry weather and overworked generators are leaving the Electric Power Corporation powerless to maintain an uninterrupted supply of electricity around Upolu.
“This drought has caused the water level in our dams to be critically low and there is not enough water to run our hydro generators and so
we have been relying completely on our diesel generators,”EPC Chief Executive Officer, Muaausa Joseph Walters said.
“Because of this, our diesel generators at the Tanugamanono Power Station
have been overworked to meet the demand. Unfortunately, this stress caused
our diesel generators to be damaged and our team has been working
constantly around the clock to fix them.
ìBecause of these factors, and our capacity greatly reduced, the Corporation

cannot supply all areas of Upolu and is forced to implement load shedding to
assist us in evenly distributing electricity to other parts of Upolu. Unfortunately,
we have not been able to adhere to the advertised load shedding schedule,
because the demand on the generators was higher than anticipated.
Replacement parts to mitigate the problem with the defective diesel generator
will be mobilized from Europe, tomorrow 6th November, and scheduled to arrive
in Apia early next week. Electricity supply is expected to return to normal by
Tuesday 11th November.
The Corporation is humbly requesting consumers with stand-by gen-sets to rely
on them where possible during this crisis. This will greatly assist the general
public to have access to the available electricity supply.
The Corporation, will strive to adhere strictly to this schedule BUT will endeavor
to advise the public if there are any deviations, due to unforeseen circumstances.

Months and Year's
written by Ok, November 08, 2008
As Years turn to months, months turn to day's. I have be telling this to all readers-- Get Rid of the EPC boss for incompetency. We have to do the obvious to save the damn economy, and the first task is the purge the EPC of dereliction of duty to the People of Samoa, the Economy, the businesses and to mankind.

Get rid of this Guy NOW!
Back to the Dark Ages------
written by O Talofae, November 08, 2008
EPC Boss is unwinding the clock backwards for the Country of Samoa. May the last person to leave the islands make sure you light a half mile of candles at the runway in Faleolo so the good tourist can leave for home, with them their unspent monies.

Unemployment for many to come in the months ahead.

No power, No Tourist. No Tourist, No Job

To the laumei's at EPC, I hope your resume's are updated.

FIRE this guy NOW.

Malo le aoga

Well if the government made sure we had basic utilities that work instead of building temples to themseleves then we migth get somewhere. The 21st century and we are still in the BLOODY DARK AGES. Typical.

Of course Pio won't print this because you support this whole mess. Good luck.
Calm and caution is needed in the dark
written by Pete, November 09, 2008
The Blackout phenomenon is a global trend due to the high cost of oil running machines and transportation, but also because of the lack of water due to long periods of drought. People are warned when the lakes are low to use water sparingly, and at the same time developments for alternative means of energy are brought forward.

The Pacific nations is no exception from the Climate Change, and we should really be looking at wind and solar power.
EPC is responsible
written by flora, November 10, 2008
They should learn from this mess if they didn't know earlier what to do. They need a good plan at hand to prevent this disaster in the future. It is a shame for them to charge people a arm and a leg for their service that don't worth a dime. They spend a lot of money on their credit cards and they can't even buy 2 spare generators for times like this. A lot of family merchandise are ruined, business lost revenues and a lot of headaches due to the power failure, and the EPC is responsible for all that, are they going to reimbursed the people, or maybe free power to all the people for this month, or no pay for the boss, and if he can't do his job, let somebody who can, to do it. No power, no tourists, no revenues for samoa, especially with the economy so bad now. They don't even have the decency to tell the people the truth of when the power will be turned off and on, and as hard times as they are right now, who is going to pay for all the damaged refrigerators, microwaves, stereos, etc., and office machines for business? EPC is responsible for all that.
Always Tell the Truth-- Stop your wicked tongues from Lies
written by Truth, November 11, 2008
Nobody likes to tell the Truth when everyone shouts for the only thing that can save the Country of Samoa.

Somebody tell the Truth as it is, not how you want it to be!

If the Power does not work, then is stands to Reason, that the guy runnning the Power Company has NO Clue on how to run a power plant, generate the electricity, send it over the lines and consistantly provide the kwh to the public-- Stop telling me its raining, when your pissing in my ears.

No More Lies for God's Sake... Get someone that knows how to Run a Power Company-- End of Story!
