Cap : RHD FORUM ORGANISER : Prominent lawyer, Toleafoa Solomona To’ailoa.

A public forum to allow opinions to be expressed on the controversial Government right hand drive policy, is being called by a prominent Apia lawyer, Toleafoa Solomona To’ailoa for next week.
Public notices are being put across the local media, calling for the open meeting this coming Friday at the Youth Hall of the Congregational Christian Church at Mulinu’u.
The forum is the first time the public will be called to voice their views, and to take a stance on RHD.
Public criticisms against the Government proposed road switch policy have been played out extensively on the local media, since the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, decided to push ahead with RHD.
The Business Community and Non Governmental Organisations are the only protesting bodies to have taken an official position against Government on the issue.

Does one need to stand behind an organization to have an official position? An opinion means more if its said from the pedestal of a organisation?

Ok, seems fair.

I, as the president of the foundation against stupid ideas throw my organization's weighty support against this stupid, hurried and dictatorial RHD policy.

I think the goverment needs to study the issue carefully because lives will be in danger not just for drivers but also pedesrians. Find out if the transportation infrastructure is sound and secure for both kind of vehicles and mainly the safety of the people. It sounds to me that the goverment is trying to make some fast money by allowing this issue to pass. I understand that island life is supported by families living in Ausies and New Zealand for the most part. However, the public have to have a say about the finacing of these RHD imports. Are they going to be the same as LHD import tax, freight tax and so on. I just dont want the public get a punch in the face by the goverment and its policies.

I want to attend this but not sure because of job commitments. From what I gather about this on-going debate, the two sides who are mostly logging heads (in the public debate, not the govt) are those who support bringing in RHD vehicles and those who oppose driving on the other side. Completely two different issues yet they are argued against each other.

I am for bringing in RHD cars to help the supposedly poor people but I am a about 10 brain cells away from a terrorist mindset regarding driving on the other side because of all the reasons against it laid out before.

I think it's about time we have a new amendment in our constitution. WHAT ABOUT GIVING BACK THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE? Major issues of this kind should be decided by the people in a national referendum, if people say no, that's it. Too many issues of importance are decided by the MPs hence the party with the majority is able to pull things the way it wants. There is no balance and no maturity in our democracy then. Or should we all go with the flow because it's all about SELF (democracy)???
