Local Business Owners are wondering why their South Pacific Games bricks, which they paid money for, have not been added to the Pathway to Dreams.
“It’s now coming onto Christmas and it’s still not there,”one complained.
Before the South Pacific Games began anyone could purchase a brick for $100 each to be placed cemented onto a Pathway to Dreams along the seawall on Beach Road.
However, with a month gone since the South Pacific Games began, the pathway has been laid but still missing are the names of individuals and businesses which purchased a brick.
One business owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, spent $2,400 on bricks for his companies named to be written on.
He is angry and saddened that this has not yet been done.
He says, he purchased the bricked back in June this year and it was his understanding that the Pathway would be completed before the South Pacific Games began.
One of the reasons the business owner purchased his brick was because he believed it would be good advertising for his company especially during the South Pacific Games when there was a large number of athletes and tourists visiting the country.
The permanent advertisement was an investment by this business owner and he believed that paying that amount of money was worth it.
During SPG he heard rumours that the names would be added after the completion of the events but he has never been notified by the SPGA regarding what is going on.
However, when he recently walked down the seawall he noticed that only four people had been added.
These four names were those of the Prime Minister, Hon. , Minister of the South Pacific Games Authority, Hon. , Supporting Partner ANZ Samoa, and Major Sponsor Samoa Tel.
This was the time that he began to wonder what had happened to his brick.
He has not yet approached the South Pacific Games Authority about what is happening with the pathway, however, attempts to speak through phone and email to Fonoti Etuale Ioane, Chief Executive Officer, by Newsline were unsuccessful.
When asked if he would now like his money returned to him for his brick, he said he would be happy either way.
“Just return the money or paint the brick.”
