Wimax will Revolutionise Broadband Wireless Internet in Samoa PDF Print E-mail
Written by CSL Media Release
Friday, 28 December 2007
21st December 2007, Apia : After being granted the first Wimax Spectrum Licence in Samoa, Computer Services Limited (CSL), Samoa’s leading information technology company, today announced its subsidiary Wimax Samoa will launch a state-of-the-art Wimax network for high-speed wireless internet, in early 2008.

With completion this week of WSL’s first transmission station in Apia , rigorous testing has already commenced to trial factors such as speed, equipment, coverage and signal strength. With launch plans very much on schedule, CSL is a step closer to making broadband wireless internet more accessible to locals and visitors.

Wimax, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, represents next generation technology which delivers broadband wireless internet at very fast speeds. With the planned Wimax network, Samoa joins the growing list of countries from around the world and the region, with Wimax deployments.

CSL CEO, Laeimau Oketevi Tanuvasa-Savea, says that, ‘Wimax will revolutionise broadband wireless internet in Samoa by offering consumers and businesses a greatly enhanced broadband wireless internet solution. Laeimau added that ‘it’s especially pleasing to know that Wimax will provide much needed relief to businesses and homes located in unwired areas, where there is no internet access’ .

Compared to older technology including ADSL which rely on telephone lines and cables, Wimax transmits data from a tower at very fast speeds using radio waves. As a single tower can quickly cover large geographic areas, Wimax is set to bring true broadband access, to many locations and end the plight of emerging country’s, where the restrictions of dialup and ADSL internet access are common. These significant advances together with Wimax’s tremendous cost advantages have not gone unnoticed. Intel and leading telecommunications providers Alcatel and Motorola are working collaboratively to develop a range of technologies to support widespread adoption of Wimax, and effectively replace older, obsolete cable-based access.

Wimax Samoa’s network will deploy proven BreezeMAX equipment from leading Wimax specialist Alvarion. David Main, CSL Manager Business Development highlighted that ‘Samoa’s geography and tropical climate were important factors in selecting a suitable technology and we were very impressed with BreezeMAX’s quality-of-service, non-line of sight, scalability and proven field reliability’ . BreezeMAX has been widely deployed in over 80 countries including Australia , New Zealand , Fiji , Tonga and Cook Islands .

Beware of Fraudulent Claims by Foreign Companies
written by TheTruth, December 29, 2007
Be careful.
All these claims from this company is not the same high speed broadband internet that Japan or the USA are accustomed to. The problem in Samoa is that there are no real web experts to determine/evaluate all these internet mumbo jumbo claims. Get some real computer/internet programmers to put all these foreign companies to a true test. Not some slick Press Release...soifua
