The presentation of credentials to the ambassador-designate of the Republic of Austria to Samoa, His Excellency Dr. Hannes Porias to the Head of State His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi took place at the Residence of His highness at Vailele yesterday morning. With the presentation of His Credentials, His Excellency Dr. Porias is now officially accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Samoa.

Ambassador Porias holds a Law Degree from the University of Vienna. He started work with the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Austria in 1980 and has been posted to Embassies of Austria in Ankara (1982-1986) and Bonn (1986-1989).

He was Head of Section for the Economic and European Union Branch of the Foreign Ministry from 1990 to 1991 and was later appointed Chief of Cabinet of the State Secretary Jankowitsch, Federal Chancellery from 1991-1992. following that he was appointed Head of Department, Economic and European Union Branch of the Foreign Ministry; a post he held until 1997.

Furthermore, His Excellency has been posted as an ambassador of Austria to Hungary from 1997-2001 and to Serbia and Montenegro from 2001 to 2005.

In October 2007 he was appointed Ambassador of Austria to Australia. He is also Austria’s Ambassador to New Zealand, the Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu and Nauru.

Whilst in Apia, Ambassador Porias will be paying a courtesy call on the Honorable Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Calls will also be made on the members of the diplomatic corps resident in Samoa, heads of regional organizations as well as members of the business community in Samoa.
