BREAKING NEWS : Rev. Atapana Alama has died

The Chairman designate of the Congregational Christian Church in Samoa EFKS, passed away last night in New Zealand from a stroke. Rev. Atapana Alama reportedly suffered a minor stroke while at home, and was rushed to Middle More Hospital in Auckland. He was reportedly found to have suffered from a severe brain haemorrhage. Rev. Alama left for New Zealand before Christmas to undergo triple bypass surgery to his heart. He recovered from surgery and was reportedly at home in Auckland getting ready to return to Samoa when he suffered the minor stroke. Rev. Alama was 61 and is survived by his wife Ramona and his four grown up children - three sons and one daughter. He was the leader of the biggest church denomination in Samoa from 2005 -2006, and was again re-elected Chairman designate to take over from Rev. Situfu Tanielu. Rev. Alama’s new leadership tenure was due to start when the EFKS holds its annual general conference in May this year. His body will be flown home next Wednesday to his village of service of many years at Magiagi. Atapana at the Fono Tele, there is one of many things that I learnt from him in the way that he conducted the general assembly. He was firm and strict, but there was a great sense of love and care wrapped around his boldness. For me that was enough just to get a reflection of his character.
