LIFETIME TESTIMONY : Author Bob Ranking with his family at the Friday night launching.

The lifetime story of one Bob Rankin, became the centre of attention at the Manumea Hotel on Friday night, where the book, PALAGI TAFAOVALE (A Wanderer In The Pacific) he wrote was officially launched.
A crowd of more than 200 people made up of mostly family and friends, celebrated the 82 year old’s lifelong achievement.
Among them were the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and Deputy Prime Minister Misa Telefoni.
Also present was MP Le Mamea Ropati and the recently appointed Secretary General of the South Pacific Forum, Tuiloma Neroni Slade.
“The book is about people and the celebration of a wonderful life,” Deputy Prime Minister, Misa Telefoni,  summarized as the keynote speaker at the launching.
“It is about a passionate love for Samoa,” he added.
A close friend and President of the Senior Citizens Association, Sefulu Ioane, who was master of Ceremony for the launching preferred to rename the book ‘OLE PALAGI ULAVALE”. (Naughty Palagi)
The 262-page book spans a 50-year lifespan that started with the war in Japan where the author was a soldier.
He made the switch to a teaching career when he returned to New Zealand. Teaching was his doorway to Samoa where a large portion of the book revolves around.
Rankin wrote about his family and the life he and his late wife Sofia built at Vaoala.
He penned down his pride as well about the achievement of his children and their subsequent successes in school and in their chosen careers.
His contribution to the local community is well known in the business sector, farming and in his profession as a teacher who turned journalist. Tennis was always his sport.
Rankin paid profound tribute the ‘women in my life’ when he spoke at the launching, “..the women are Samoa’s greatest gifts to the world.”
“PALAGI TAFAOVALE’ is’ A genuine Pacific, ole–hand’s exhilarating account – perceptive, frank and entertain…of his life and loves over the past 75 years, 50 0f them in Samoa,” wrote Stuart Inder, Former Editor and Publisher, Pacific islands Monthly.”
