Mr Shi (left) pictured here with some members of the Chinese community in Samoa, which made up mainly of Samoans with Chinese descent, last Sunday during the Chinese New Lunar Year celebrations in Vailima.

Samoans of Chinese descent have been described as the “bridge that links” Samoa to one of the biggest countries - both geographically and economically- in the world, China.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Samoa, Mr Longzhuang Shi says Chinese Samoans have contributed largely to the development of Samoa.
“Here in Apia, I am amazed to personally witness the rapid change,” Mr Shi told a gathering of over a 100 people, mainly from the Chinese community in Samoa, who attended the Chinese New Lunar Year party at his official residence in Vailima on Sunday evening.
“I see more and more cars in town, [I also] see increasing number of houses and shops are being built…..and not a small part can be attributed to the diligent and hard working Chinese community in Samoa made up mostly of Samoans of Chinese descent.”
He said Chinese Samoans’ contribution to the Samoan economy forms a strong link with China.
“I see Chinese Samoans as a great bridge that links out two countries,” he said. “You (Chinese Samoans) are working so hard to contribute to the development of this beautiful country and also serving as an important link between Samoa and China.”
