Farewell Rev. Atapana Alama PDF Print E-mail

Young Julie of Magiagi found a place infront of the family's decorated breadfruit tree, to watch the large crowd of mourners at Rev. Atapana Alama's funeral.

Mrs. Ramona Alama’s final gesture of farewell to her beloved husband, Rev. Atapana Alama, was to lay a black lace scarf on the head of the coffin on Monday.
She had worn the piece of cloth around her shoulders through out the final service.
Rev. Alama was farewelled by the country’s dignitary from the Head of State, His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and members of his Cabinet.
The Chief Justice, Patu Falefatu Sapolu and members of the judiciary were also present.
The Chairman of the Congregational Christian Church, Rev. Situfu Tanielu, led a strong presence of the members of the clergy from the various denominations.
Relatives and friends packed the Magiagi Congregational Church into overspill.
The Monday service ended what was a continuous flow of mourners who turned up since Rev. Alama’s casket was brought to his church at Magiagi on Sunday.
The planned family service on the day was then followed in the evening by a vigil of church choirs that went late into the early hours of Monday morning.
Rev. Alama’s body was finally laid to rest late in the afternoon.

THE GODFATHER
written by Sons of Magiagi, February 06, 2008
Atapana was literally the GODFATHER to all Magiagi descendants, not that he was involved in organised crime, but in the sense that he commanded a godfather like respect amongst not only the people of his own congregation but the entire village of Magiagi. Although I live in NZ I visit Magiagi regularly and have witnessed first hand the power of his right hand, the right hand that has preached the word of God, the right hand that has set us striaght, I shall miss listening to your sermons, the voice, the presence of our GODFATHER, ia manuia le malaga Atapana,
oi!!!!!
