Greg Urwin's Body ushered into the Mulivai Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Thursday afternoon by family members

Local and overseas dignitaries turned up enmass at the Mulivai Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the requiem mass of the late Mr. Gregory Lawrence Urwin mid-afternoon yesterday.
The Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, led a large stream of local mourners to make their final farewells.
The local political and corporate leadership as well as family members and friends filled the Cathedral.
The New Zealand Minister of Pacific Island Affairs, Luamanuvao Winnie Laban and the Australian Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, the Hon Bob McMullan MP headed the dignitary list of overseas government officials and family members who arrived in Apia for the funeral.
The former Secretary General of the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat passed away at the age of 62.
He distinguished himself firstly as a career diplomat for his native Australia for most of his working life before taking on other regional duties that included the last he held for the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat as Secretary General.
An emotional outpouring of personal condolences for his grieving widow Mrs. Penny Urwin and family started flowing into Apia, since his passing last weekend at home. (read other story).
The messages of sympathy from  Pacific Island leaders, heads of regional organizations and colleagues, paid endearing tribute to the distinguished services that stood him out as a man the ‘Pacific will sorely missed,” according to a message by the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi to the family.
Apia was pouring rain shortly before the 2.00pm scheduled funeral service, but it eased slowly into a very light drizzle before it dried up all together as the hearse arrived at the doorsteps of the Catholic Church.
Mr. Urwin’s coffin was draped in the Australian flag as it was being carried into the Cathedral while widow Penny Urwin looked on.
Eulogies were provided by his son Wylie Clarke, brother Neil Urwin, friend Rick Smith, colleague and friend Maiava Iosefa Maiava and Peter Forau of the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat.
His body was finally laid to rest at the Keil Family burial ground at Lotopa.
