Finemats Cannot Be Exported From Samoa

A number of enquiries have been made about exporting finemats from Samoa. The bad news is that you cannot export the finemats.However there are exceptions. The Prohibition Order dated 14th February 2007 pursuant to sectopm 73 of the Customs Act 1977 prohibits the export of finemates except in the following cases: 1. In relation to a funeral- a permit will be granted for up to 10 finemats if one member of the family is to travel or for up to 20 finemats if a group of people travel to attend the funeral; 2. In relation to a village group travelling for cultural or other events- a permit is granted for up to 40 finemats For those overseas-based Samoans who want to have a finemat you will need to organise to have a finemat in Samoa brought over as part of the 10 or 20 finemats allowed for a funeral for one of your relatives.
