One of 12 hand tractors, the first in Samoa, donated by the Indonesian Government

Twelve diesel fuel tractors, the first of its kind in Samoa are now available for the development of small scale agriculture farming in Samoa.
Laisene Samuelu, of the Nuu Crops Division, said this and added that it is not yet decided what the tractors would be used for, however, a hiring program will possibly begin in the next two weeks or so.
Laisene says that five workers from the Nuu Agricultural Crop Division have been trained to operate the machines.
Each machine requires one person to operate it and the trained employees underwent training for the past few days.
The hand tractors were donated by the Republic of Indonesia and was formally handed over yesterday at the Nuu Agriculture office by Hon. Anton Apriyanton the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of Indonesia to Afioga Taua Tavaga K. Seuala the Hon. Minister of Agriculture Samoa.
In his address Hon. Anton highlights the importance of Samoa-Indonesia relations and hopes for it to continue in the future.
“We are happy that the Samoan people can benefit from our comparative advantage:” Hon Anton said.
“This donation (hand tractors) will play a triggering role in supporting Samoan agriculture in a much broader scope.”
Hon. Taua spoke of the importance of this donation under bilateral assistance by the Republic of Indonesia.
“The majority of Samoan people tiling the land are small scale farmers. With modern technology making work more efficient, we should expect boosted productions locally, as these new machines are appropriate for local conditions and are fitting in regard to landscape in Samoa:” Taua said.
He says that the anticipated outcome with the help of the hand tractors is the expansion of agriculture, improved productivity, creating employment and higher salary, as well as generating more agricultural foreign earnings.
This donation was first convened through the Diplomatic Channel in New Zealand-Samoa Consulates, and then relayed to the Foreign Affairs and Trade Office in Samoa.
