AGAINST ROAD SWITCH : Top ranked Chief of Lauli’i Village, Leniu Avamagalo putting the vote to the villagers.

Lauli’i Village has voted unanimously to join the protest against the Government policy to switch to driving on the left hand sides of the road.
The decision was made official in a village vote yesterday that included women, children and the untitled men.
The village council of chiefs and orators met earlier on Monday and voted unanimously to join the protest.
The villagers carried protest placards calling as untitled men and primary school children, march a short distance from the main road to the village meeting house.
The top ranked chief in Lauli’i and former Government Cabinet Minister, Afioga Leniu Avamagalo, put the vote to the people of the village.
A unanimous yes vote resounded around the village, as the national media looked on.
Afioga Leniu emphasized however that while they are against the road switch, they still remain a strong hold for the Government’s Human Rights Protection Party, and of Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.
Lawyer Toleafoa Solomona Toailoa, the leader of the protest movement, People Against Switching Sides or PASS, attended the village gathering.

Stand up and be heard
written by lomi, February 27, 2008
Good for them. Finally someone has the guts to stand up to the government and refuse their dumb decision. This is probably one of the most idiotic thing the government of Samoa has come up with in switching the road side. WHY? We've done pretty good with where we are. Lauli'i isn't enough. Samoa need much more than that. The Taxi Association protested it a while back but I think they gave up. PM has personal intrest elsewhere when he thought this one up. Come on Samoa, stand up and be heard. I spoke with many people in Samoa and everyone of them aren't happy with the switch, so why are they not involve in a protest. I would think there would be a massive march downtown Apia. PM is not always correct. Just because he is in office does not mean we have to agree to every plan he comes up with.

Road (drive) switch!
written by Misiuaiki Tuimaseve, March 03, 2008
I'm very sorry but I think this is the dumbest and the most stupid thing I've ever heard of. I live in Tokyo Japan but was born in Samoa. Been to many different countries learnt and know a lot about different things but when I saw this on the internet, I thought, "what a stupid country (government)."
The only country in the whole Universe that will ever switch side for people to drive after more than 60 or so, years of experience driving on the right side of the road.
Who came up with this stupid idea? Is this because of those that live in New Zealand and wanna take their cars to Samoa or what? There are Samoans living in America and many other parts of the world that drive on the same side as it is now, so why change?
There are only very few countries in the world that drive on the left side of the road. This is only gonna make Samoa look stupid. O ai le fiapoto na nofo sui le itu e ave ai ta'avale? O le palemia po'o ???. I'm from Saleufi but I support Lauli'i opposing and protesting (against) the government's fa'avalevalea.
Good on ya Samoa
written by Wally, April 22, 2008
I say good on ya for switching. Many countries have switched for various reasons in the past, and it seems to always work just fine. Samoa is surrounded by countries which drive on the left, and it is wise to have that uniformity. When I visit Samoa, it takes me several days of driving before I am comfortable driving on the right. This will make tourism from Australia signicantly easier, and it will allow Samoans to buy used Japanese vehicles.
Cheers from Australia!
