The Organising Committee for the celebrations of  Independence Day next week are finalising last minute details of their official programme.
The Chairman of the Committee has told the media that public holidays will be Monday and Tuesday next week (2-3 June 2008

Independence Day celebration will officially open with a church service at the Methodist Church at Matafele.

“The official opening will start at 6:00pm in the evening and that it’s going to be the official opening of many activities and events to commemorate Independence Day,” he said.

The following day, Monday 2nd of June, Government and Private Schools will march early in the morning to show their support.

Entertainment is to be provided also on this day by Samata, Uafato/Fagaloa and Leauva’a before a cocktail party prepared by the government for special guests at the Head of States residence in Vailele at 7:00pm.

On Tuesday, the Fautasi Race will take place at 6:30 sharp early in the morning, depending on good weather and the tide.The prize for the winner is $22,000. 
The Fautasi Race is to be followed by entertainment by groups who will be representing Samoa at the Pacific Arts Festival in American Samoa.They are CCCS Youth Group of Falefa, CCCS Youth Group of Faatoia, the ‘Island Fire’ Dancing Group, and Samoa Teachers Association.
