Landowner horror-struck by Siumu blockade

The human blockade on freehold land currently under dispute at the Siumu village district has horrified a land owner who tried to access their land. “We got to the front of the entry road and 20 men with guns stood infront of us and stopped us from entering land that we righteously bought,” the land owner said. Due to the sensitivity of this issue, the land owner requested name suppression to speak freely about their experience. According to the landowner when they approached the entry to their land last week the men armed with guns stopped their car, swept their arms in a big motion and said: “Go home, this is our land.” The landowner said the experience shocked them and sent them fleeing from the land they bought lawfully. Since the blockade the landowner could not access the land for development and to check on the site. “Now they have put up barb wire fences and have chopped down some of the trees on the land,” the landowner said. Newsline could not confirm this information. “We paid for that land, we obtained the land legally, we shouldn’t have to suffer because of what someone did in the past, as far as were concerned, this land dispute is not our problem,” the disgruntled landowner told Newsline. Any development planned for the land will have to wait until the dispute is settled and the owners can access the land once again.
