The Head of State His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi and the Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, were joined by Governor Togiola Tulafono of American Samoa at the funeral services today of the late Lauofo Meti.
The large gathering of mourners packed the Mulivai Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the distinguished leader’s Requiem Mass, at 11.00am.
The cortege made its way to the Magiagi National Cemetery where the body of the late Lauofo Meti was laid to rest for the final time.
The 78 year old was born Mac Raphael Meredith on 15th November 1929 before he became the Honourable Lauofo Meti.
Lauofo was part of a selected group of Samoan leaders who worked to frame a constitution for the country leading up to independence from New Zealand.






He went on to write the story about the effort that went into the writing of the Constitution in two books he published, not so long ago.
Lauofo progress on from a public servant to a Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister with the portfolio of Foreign Affairs.
He retired from politics to concentrate on his many businesses.
He was taken to New Zealand after suffering a stroke in Samoa where he died on the 27th of September 2008 from a secondary stroke.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lupe Lauofo Meti and 7 grown up children, 4 girls and 3 boys.
