President Hinkley: Late President Gordon P. Hinkley of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The funeral ceremony of the Mormon Church’s President, Gordon P. Hinkley is expected to be screened live from the United States.
“The entire ceremony will be screened live from Salt Lake City Utah at specified church locations around the country such as the church at Pesega at 7:00am Sunday (local time),” says Director of Public Affairs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Samoa, Uele Vaulu.
He says that this is a good way for the Mormons in Samoa, to honor the work of such a great individual that has done wonders for the church.
Vaulu says that President Hinkley was both a president and a prophet and the fruits of his labor were witnessed by many.
He says that President Hinkley traveled to Samoa on several occasions, most recently to the blessing of the new Temple at Pesega after it was destroyed by fire.
Vaulu says that President Hinkley was also here for the renewal of the Temple in 1983.
He says that the work of President Hinkley was especially devoted to helping the youth.
“He established the Perpetual Educational Fund, which allows church youth with families that cannot afford to put them through school to further their education.
This benefited a lot of Samoan children.”
He also adds that President Hinkley’s work extends on to educating the youth and raising awareness of different youth issues.
“He always taught the youth about the importance of staying away from life’s temptations, such as drugs.”
He also encouraged strengthening family ties and for parents and children to establish mutual bonds amongst themselves.
Vaulu explained that because the entire ceremony will be aired live here in Samoa, no one from the Church in Samoa is attending, and also because of time constraints.
He says President Hinkley’s work will live on for generations to come.”
President Hinkley died peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City Utah, he was the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 12 years, and was 97 years old when he passed away.
