Most Samoans still live in open fales

The latest Population and Housing Census indicate that there are still more Samoans living in open Samoan fales than any other type of housing. According to the Census, out of the 45,931 household buildings, a total of 12,736 are open Samoan fales. The next most popular housing type is open European fale at 10,626 households, a further 3010 open Samoan fales are noted with extensions. There are currently 751 closed Samoan fales and a further 487 closed with extensions. The open European fale with extension is numbered at 4712. Unsurprisingly the third most popular housing type is the Closed European House where 6871 of Samoan households now reside. The Census Survey was released earlier this year but it was conducted in 2006. More on this on the next edition of Newsline.
