His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi and Masiofo Filifilia

The Government of Samoa has yet to declare the birthday of the current Head of State of Samoa, His Highness Tupua Tamasese, a public holiday.
This was explained yesterday by Chief Executive Officer for the Prime Ministers Office, Vaasatia Poloma Komiti.
“The birthday of the Head of State of our country has not been declared a public holiday, the reason why the birthday of the previous Head of State, His Highness the Late Malietoa Tanumafili II was a public holiday was because it was a government initiative in recognition of his long and distinguished service to Samoa,” explained Vaasatia.
He said that it was after 40 years of service as the Head of State of Samoa, before the birthday of His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II was declared a public holiday.
He explains that the birthday of the Head of State of Samoa has not been declared by law as a public holiday and reiterates that the His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili IIs birthday being a public holiday was in “special recognition” of his long standing service.
Vaasatia explains that whether or not the birthday of His Highness, the Head of State Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efis will become a public holiday after years of service is dependant on government.
“The government decides that,” Vaasatia said.
