SHARING GRIEF : CJ Patu Falefatu Sapolu signs condolence book at the Chinese Embassy, Vailima

Samoa’s Chief Justice, Patu Falefatu Sapolu, was among the solemn lineup of Government officials and international community members who paid respect to the victims of the earthquake in China, by signing the condolence book at the Chinese embassy at Vailima, this week.
The Chinese Embassy in Samoa, and other missions abroad, opened condolence books from 19th to 21st May 2008 to mourn the victims of the biggest and most destructive earthquake in the Central Province of Sichuan on 12 May.
“The condolence book is for the Samoan public and the international community in Samoa, to pay their respects to the families of the victims,” says Frank Sun Jianping, Political and Cultural Officer of the Chinese Embassy in Samoa..
China began a three-day national mourning on Monday 19th May for the tens of thousands of people killed by the earthquake.
“All public amusements will be suspended for the three days from Monday. During the morning days, the torch for the Beijing Olympic Games will be suspended to mourn the quake victims.”
Sun Jianping adds that during this time the public are asked to observe a 3 minute silence from 2:28pm pm on Monday, the time the deadly quake hit.
Cars, trains, and ships would sound horns and sirens.
