Sa'oali'i Toalepaiali'i (with hat) in this file photo in front of the Government building protesting against STEC land at his home village Satapuala.

The man many fondly referred to as the Sa’oali’i is being mourned this week by the various sectors of the population he has touched as a village chief, political leader and by a unique character he created out of a strong personality.
Toalepaialii Toeolesulusulu Siueva Pose is best remembered as an outspoken politician who was once a Minister of Cabinet and more recently as a flamboyant candidate in the past two general elections.
Toalepaialii was Minister of Health and Transport under Vaai Kolone's cabinet in the mid 1980s.
He was also a former head of the Marine Department and Harbour Master after his training in maritime development and planning matters in Singapore.

The Satapuala village high chief was a man the media flocked to because when running for election for his outrageous policies that after a while began to make sense, even to other running candidates who began to follow his lead.
The Sa’oali’i also forced the attention of Government to issues of land ownership that involved Samoa Trusts Estates land ownership at his home village and the Faleolo International Airport.
It was partly through his persistence that eventually made Government agree to form a special committee to look into solutions for village claims on STEC land.
“He was a fighter for his village and his people,” Chairman of the Tautua Samoa Party, MP Lealailepule Rimoni said yesterday.
“Our condolences to his wife, family and village.”
Arrangement for his funeral services are yet to be announced by the family.
