Tragedy At The Start Of Malua Conference. PDF Print E-mail
Written by Pio Sioa

A 32 year old Church Minister of the Congregational Christian Church in Samoa, CCCS, and his unborn child died at the weekend in a traffic accident in Savaii.
The reverend was rushing his pregnant wife who was about to give birth, to the Malietoa Tanumafili Hospital last Friday, when the accident occurred at the village of Pu’apu’a.
According to police reports, the van he was driving rolled over while trying to overtake another car.
The unborn child was discovered dead when the injured mother was brought to the hospital for emergency attention.
She was later brought to the main hospital in Apia, where she is now recovering.
The Church Minister and his wife were reportedly making the long drive of several miles to the hospital, from Faletagaloa village in Safune where they were serving the village congregation.
The tragedy gave a sad start to the annual Malua Fonotele, of the Congregational Christian Church that started this week, and was also the only fatality reported during the long Mother’s Day weekend.
Church Ministers and senior representatives of the various congregations in New Zealand, Australia and the United States, are in the country for the CCCS annual conference.
