Road repair work at Vaivase uta

After years of complaints of the terrible state of their roads, residents of Vaivase Uta have a new reason to complain, this time about how the construction work has wrongfully invaded their properties; this comes after only a month of long anticipated road construction.
“We don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but this is getting out of hand,” says one resident who was outraged at what the construction workers have done.
Situation at Vaivase Uta has become an ongoing tussle due to construction workers claiming that fences and gardens along the main road being situated on what is legally the boundary limits for width of customary roads.
However, residents maintain that land that is rightfully theirs have been taken from them.
Also phone lines have been moved from the main road into family’s properties, without consultation with property owners.
One angry resident who wishes to remain anonymous says: “They have just come into our properties and dug up holes, then they move phone poles that were originally situated by the main road into these holes, without even consulting landowners.
Our families’ fences and that of our neighbors have also been taken down and shifted inwards, to make up for customary road widths as well as drainage systems that are now finally being introduced after years of persistence with the government.”
Attempts to get a reaction from the Chief Executive Officer for Ministry of Public Works were unsuccessful.
“In spite of the great efforts being put into the restoration of our roads, the approach has just been really sketchy, and we only wish that the government could have come with a more deferential approach.”

Roads in samoa are too narrow. Someone is going to get injured one of these days. It is so dangerous along the roads heading in both direction of the country. Samoa have to do something. Pedestrians are not very causious on these narrow Samoa roads. Many a times I find people walking along the edge and vehicle have to swerve to avoid running in to them. Who's to blame if someone is hit? Residents have to allow the government to address these issues and may be plan to widen our roads. I don't think another 15' on both sides of the road is going to kill anyone, but if not, it might if it hasn't already. People in Samoa will probably need to think life first before property. Lets work on improving our roads, utility pole is a part of it. Stop wining.

The govt should not only widen the roads, but also put footpaths down the sides, so people don't walk on the bloody road!. These residents need to look at the bigger picture. Maybe the govt should compensate by building fences on the properties affected.
