James Adams, Vice President of the World Bank East Asia and Pacific Region

Vice President of the World Bank East Asia and Pacific Region remains positive about the future of Samoas economy.
In an interview the Newsline yesterday James Adams outlined his hopes for the Samoan economy.
“I’m quite optimistic,” he said.
“I think the performance will continue to be solid. I think that the big challenge is the one that the Government effectively is addressing and thinking through and working on. That big challenge is, how does the Government mobilize additional investment in private sector, both foreign and domestic, where policies can improve.”
Adams says although the world economy has experienced problems, islands such as Samoa are protected by the regions interdependence.
Samoa having experienced a somewhat somber period in its economy can relinquish its former thriving status by encouraging investments in partnership with international organizations such as the World Bank.
Adams said: “We have talked to the Government about various ways we can assist, and one of the instruments that I hope to be able to use is the private sector arm of the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC).”
Adams conducted extensive meetings with local officials in the Ministry of Finance and other sectors of the Samoan Government.
Currently the World Bank invests approximately SAT$5 million tala into Samoa on an annual basis.
Adams said he hopes this amount will increase in coming years as World Bank increases its focus on the region.

Did you know.....

...that the bigger our debt or loan is with the World Bank "IMF" the more you will see your so called Democracy fall into its true colours! No where is James interested in Samoa and its people neither is the World Bank! What does it mean to move forward?.......Our economy will not be ours it will be the World Banks and it will decide and dictate to your democratically elected Government what it should do, what policies it should make and where to invest because........Samoa it's not your money you're using, it's someone else’s. We need clever politicians that are able to negotiate, fight for and stand up against those elite who are running our world!! By the way check out how much the USA owes the IMF, World Bank and who really runs their country. The truth is out there. Life is simple, we don't need to keep up with the west or prove we can be like others! What we do need is Samoa to be Samoa and stand on God's promises and word. Chaos will prevail as it is written, there is nothing we can do about it but!!.......We don't have to be part of it just for the sake of being part of it! The poorer the country, which we are not.....we could survive better then any other western country if the world economy crashes(If we didn't owe millions to others) the IMF World Bank puts them in greater debt......Not right!

..I think that any wealthy, developed countries in the world are very much rely on loans to develop their countries. Eventhough they are rich but that is part of the equation and how to run a government...loan now to cope with essential government projects than pay it later. Some small or undeveloped poor countries like Samoa are also relying on loans from world organisations such as IMF to help develop its nation, but at the same time the government must negotiate a better deal, in interest, how to pay it back...what I mean better deal...low or no interest on loans at all...the only hiccup here is the Samoan do not have adequate exports...thanks goes to countries like China and Japan for their financial aids as we can see all those tall buildings and other projects in Samoa but, make sure you must state "never take over SAMOA AND SAMOAN in the future" in the contract.
