Samoa is a beacon of stability in the region. No we did not say that….loudly. Outsiders did!
But should we as Samoans brag about it? Hell yeah!
We have to for the sake of our own stability. Look at it as a deterrent for any nutcase or cases, who dare to rock the boat.
We have  been up and down Beach Road this past few months to protest the Government switch to RHD.
Thousands stamped angry feet in the stifling heat all the way to the very ground where we will celebrate our independence tomorrow, to ‘scratch’ our leaders conscience.
The police were out in full force with riot gears hidden behind the Parliamentary building for a riot that never came nor posed a risk at any time.
In the end the marchers returned home quietly and peacefully albeit fuming at the Government.
Nothing happened! Seki lava le mea.
Students pumped up with hormones trashed part of Apia over some rugby game and seriously injured an innocent bystanding student who is receiving expensive treatment in New Zealand at the expense of Government.
The condemnation from around the country was swift and sweeping,  Apia is now a no hormone zone. Seriously.
Our Manu Samoa went to the World Cup last year and failed miserably. We  mourned our defeat and fought our angry emotions down.
Our Manu Samoa national 7s shone through instead and restored our national pride. They reverted later on to their ordinary ways again until last week when they won the London leg of the IRB circuit.
All this winning and losing is good because it continues to be a learning curve for the country’s emotions.
So as they say – Aye aye, steady as she goes.
Stability is a peoples thing! As long as we subscribe to the freedom of people’s rights and especially expression we will be okay.
Even the hardened critics will have to agree that since PM Tuilaepa came along, he has done right by the people on that count.
Maybe his RHD policy sucks as far as the critics are concerned but never has an issue been well debated in the public arena.
The horrors of the time when Radio 2AP dangled at the end of a sow’s butt are long buried…with the sows butt.
There are many who disagree with selling off SBC-TV but again it is another milestone on our quest as a nation free to speak its mind.
There are many examples we can dust up from the archives of our journey, to reflect on our path of nationhood over the years, but the one thing that stands out notably, is our ability to resolve our disagreements.
When we reflect on these events, the heart sings with joy that Samoa as a country is firmly founded and grounded on solid ground.
Yes there is pride in the reputation of being the most stable democracy in the region, and it is that same pride that we should hold onto as our guardian against instability.
Our faith in God is strong! Our culture is our anchor!
Long Live Our Stable Democracy.
