Pig eating Manu Samoa vs. Juice drinking Australia A

Diners at a local restaurant were more than astounded when the Manu Samoa team pitched to play this Saturday ate up three quarters of a nicely cooked pig from the restaurant buffet on Tuesday night.
Come on man, if you are meant to play on Saturday, shouldn’t you be living on greens and egg yolks or something?
Ok, so I am no expert of sports training, but fatty pork before a serious international rugby game is not necessarily my idea of good preparation.
These young men were eating like there was no tomorrow, whatever little pride I had left for our rugby reps went away with each of their bites on that fat pig.
The Chef was not exactly impressed: “Well I was sort of hoping that they were on the overseas sports diets, you know like real players, if I had known I would have made five pigs.”
Meanwhile at a Cocktail for the Australia A team the very next night, the players barely picked on the finger foods provided, and stuck to water and juice the whole time.
Now that, that is what I call commitment.
I seriously thought, in my own limited rugby experience, that our team would take this stuff more seriously now.
Having had relatives in the national team in the past, beer drinking and lack of discipline of lifestyle is all too rife amongst our team members.
It is a shame that the one sport which is close to the hearts of most Samoans is not being perfected at its highest level by the very people who represent us.
That being said, of course there are the good ones, who keep to their diet, exercise routine and observe the lifestyle rules of the game.
Does size matter.
When Samoa was put on the map by our rugby team in earlier days of the game, we were noted for the size of our players, towering above the rest of the other teams and causing permanent injuries to others, ok, so although not a good thing, it made Samoan players some of the most feared in the game.
It seems that is not the case anymore.
The current Manu Samoa players are miniscule compared to the build of the Australia A team.
Ironic indeed, but does it matter? If we truly have the skills to give Australia a run for their money, then size should not matter at all.
But we all know that in our God fearing nation, everything is about size.
The mere size of the Aussies might just make our boys sink into the corner of the field, but then again when have the Tuilagi brothers ever failed us in their unrelenting power to slaughter the efforts of the opponents.
Home ground advantage
Australia A has proven their strength so far, winning with flying colours in previous matches. Our team, well, not so good.
But the boys have home ground advantage, so hopefully the support of fellow Samoans will provide a boost for a players.
Give em some money
Perhaps it is time that our players get more than a few tala in their pockets for their efforts on the field. We are probably the only team in the world whose rugby players get paid less than the administrators.
A shame as the talent is rife amongst our youngsters.
If those in charge were to invest financially in good players, then perhaps they would be maintained and would last longer, and also have the motivation not to pig out on pork before a big game.
It seems the investment into our players have been half-baked thus far.
Hopefully the dollars invested by IRB will somehow be allocated to the proper payment of players who have earned more than their share of keep in the team.
Its not like the poor fellas can earn from endorsements, there are only so many soap commercials and corn beef advertisements to be done.
So that being said, we wish our team the best for tomorrow and hope for a tough game, where hopefully we will come out winning.
On that note, enjoy the game Samoa.

Give them money? Are you kidding me?They should start winning games first, homey, and then I'll fell like giving them money.Manu Samoa should redeem itself from the last world cup's disaster. But it doesn't look like they're doing it - then might as well forget about it. Se aua le tau milimili so'o e atili ai le matagaga ae leai se malo.

Comon guys you dont eat heavy food on the night before the game. Ok yes protein but the less fat kind of protein. Lots of juices oranges bananas and water. Man people imagine the money Samoa can get by winnig some of these tournaments. If we win the PNC we get almost 2 million dollars SAT

It's all about strength, skill and discipline as a player and a team, the first two Manu Samoa have got the last one they can certainly make improvements on,I'm sure the massive feeds can wait til at least after the game!! What's one more night! They gotta pave the way for the younger generation...

Being Manu Samoa doesn't mean you'll try and eat like a palagi....if they're not getting paid properly (like the Aussies do) then I guess a nice roasted puaka is a bonus for the boys...gee what's wrong with you people....either you support them or get off their backs..... Fa

Manu Samoa is only benefitting by eating all that meat. The Tongans at the world cup ate 1 whole chicken each, and look what happened when we faced them? I say order a "size 2 piggy" for every 2nd player in the team.

lol @ robbie the nutritionist deans. White meat versus red meat? Chicken versus puaka? I think the tongans were wise to eat the chicken, you only have to look at who won our world cup pool game to know why? Puaka washes down nicely with a bottle of cabernet merlot hehehehe...

An over exaggerated article. You must admit at least they didnt eat the whole pork. In saying that if three quaters of the pork was all that was eaten wouldnt you expect it considering its a rugby team full of men . As for the chef and his comments very unprofessional - you were disappointed at them eating its a resturant for goodness sake or were you really disappointed at the fact that there was not enough left over to be served the next night. If you really want to make a difference to their performance you should serve more healthy options for the players surely you would have known before hand they were coming. For all you haters heres something for you especially Ms Jackson:
Educate yourself enough so you may understand the ways of other people But not too much that you may loose understanding of your own Try things palagi, not so you may become palagi But so you may see value of things samoan Learn to speak samoan not so you may sound Samoan But so you may feel the essence of being Samoan Above all be aware and proud of what you are So you may spare yourself the agony of those who are asking What are you?
All I can say now is come on people don't hate - appreciate.
