Many who knew Tuilaepa Robert Kamu personally would mourn his death as we all do when it happens to people we know and love.
The death of this 49 year old however was particularly heartbreaking because of everything that transpired from the time of the road accident two weeks ago, right up to when he died.
He was only minutes from what was hoped would have been a life saving surgery.
So much hope was held out for him to live. Everything that needed to be done was done to ensure he received the best that can be humanly possible to keep him alive.
His fragile condition had to be nursed along carefully so that his body can build up enough strength to withstand the strain and rigors of flying to New Zealand for the spinal surgery he needed.
He survived the journey and the next couple of days.
What happened next was beyond any human power, so it was as God willed for him.
We can only mourn and console our loss with little else but accept what is beyond our reach or understanding.

We can however look back at how this emotional roller coaster run started and see if there are any positives we can take from it.
What happened all came down to a simple mistake by the driver of the van who reportedly lost control momentarily. Within a few short seconds the slip in concentration ended in a head on collision with an oncoming vehicle.
It may have happened in a snap but it triggered a series of traumatic events when Tuilaepa was left paralysed, a second senior officer broke his back and several other staff members were injured.
The driver reportedly escaped with a few scratches or so it was reported. He will eventually answer to the laws of the land and what will eventually be looked at as human error.
To err is of course human, but so too is the heart rending pain that cuts through the core of the human soul from that same human err.
The simple action of turning the steering wheel the wrong way by a slip of concentration, cost Tuilaepa his life and his working colleagues the pain of injury.
The anxious concerns by family members has melted into tears at the death of Tuilaepa.
Another seriously injured staff who reportedly suffered a serious back injury is probably uncertain of what will become of his family if he is unable to recover fully to provide the same support and care before the accident.
We are building up to the busy holiday period in a few weeks time. Safety on the road is always at a high risk at this time of the year as people switched over into a celebratory mood.
A slip in concentration for whatever reasons could have dire consequences for you or others you loved when it is you who is guilty of a responsibility lapse.
Please keep that thought deeply embedded in your centre of attention in the coming holiday season.
Stay Alert. Negligence Can Cost Lives And Human Suffering You Do Not Want To See In Your Family.
Rest In Peace Tuilaepa Robert Kamu.

A sad story
written by Plato, November 30, 2008
What a very sad story for the family of Mr Tuilaepa Kamu and others involved. especially as everyone prepares for the holidays. I can only ask Father in Heaven for his comfort.
Any now, the real reason I'm commenting on this article, is the RHD issue.
It sends chills down my spine when I read about head-on collisions in Samoa. In my opinion, Samoa is not ready for such a drastic change on this very important and critical issue.
The roads in Samoa are not wide enough to compensate any driver errors. In counties like China, N Z., Australia and even in the U S., most roads have barriers to separate the opposing traffics.
It would only take a split second for a driver to forget which side he or she's suppose to be on for head on collisions to happen.
I don't think we are prepared to face numerous casualties brought on by this change. So please Mr Prime Minister and members of the House, reconsider this issue. It will save a lot of lives and sorrow within our Samoan community. Who knows, maybe the life you'll save could be your own..
Don't forget, I told you so.. Ma le ava male alofa tele mo tagata nuu o Samoa..

It'll probably double or trible that number. I sincerely hope I'm wrong
