HARVARD BOUND : Ministry of Health CEO Tapuimatagi Palanitina Toelupe, with the President of the Medical Association, Dr. Ben Matalavea (right) and Mulipola Roger Hazelman, CEO of Kidney Foundation.

Harvard University bound Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Health, Tapuimatagi Ms. Palanitina Toelupe, could not hide the excitement of attending the two weeks leadership training, at the prestigious institution.
Toelupe and Computer Service Limited CEO, Laeimau Oketevi Tanuvasa are the Samoan women CEO’s, already on the way to attend the Leaders in Development: Managing Political and Economic Change programme at the John F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
“It’s really quite an honour to attend this important training and I’m really excited about it,” Toelupe told Newsline yesterday before flying out last night.

She and Laeimau were among six women from the region granted New Zealand scholarships to enroll in the programme.
But the pair is not the first Samoan women to be granted the same opportunity.
“Our former Attorney General, Brenda Heather Latu was the first, Fa’amausili Mataagialofi (Public Service Commission CEO) was second and Dr. Emma Kruse Vaai (Deputy Vice Chancellor, National University of Samoa School of Technology) was third,” Toelupe recalled.
The Health Ministry boss won nomination last year but was unable to attend because of work commitment.
She reapplied again for this year and was was again selected along with her CSL counterpart.

The scholarships that has made it possible for them to attend, forms part of the New Zealand Prime Minister and Council of Women Leaders Joint Fellowship for Emerging Pacific Women leaders.

The successful applicants are recognised leaders and play an important role in their own communities.
The course offers these women the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and bring the benefits home.
