Media Roles on Reporting Human Rights Enhanced PDF Print E-mail

Enhancing the underlying principle for a strong public service in broadcasting in the Pacific, and examining its status was the ultimate aim of a two day Pacific Media and Human Rights Summit that ended  in Apia yesterday.

Senior media representatives from around the region participated, from radio and television as well as representatives from non-government organizations.

Summit facilitator, Michael Powells told Newsline that the summit has helped strengthen public broadcasting through enhanced networking, through an examination of the role of broadcasting to governance and leadership in the Pacific.

The Summit also featured an identification of the Human Rights framework and how journalists can use this in covering news and filming stories.

The Pacific Human Rights Summit also provided an opportunity for high level dialogue on the medias role in promoting and protecting freedom of expression.

The media role in reporting child rights in the Pacific Region has also been further enhanced.

Journalistic competency in examination of environmental rights in the Pacific was also covered.
