Ten members of the Samoa Umbrella for Non Government Organisations (SUNGO) yesterday graduated with Certificates of Attainment in Adult Teaching or (CAT).
The graduates represent NGOs from SUNGO.
They took part in the In Country Training Programme (ICTP) which is an initiative of SUNGO in partnership with the Government of Samoa, funded by AusAID and NZAid.
The opening prayer was conducted by Rev. Ioane Iosefo who is also the Vice President of SUNGO.
Fuimaono Naoia Oli Schuster spoke on behalf of SUNGO acknowledging the support of donor agencies and Oloamanu Training Center at the National University of Samoa Institute of Technology (NUSIOT).
“This is a great initiative and one that will greatly contribute to the work of SUNGO in the community,” Fuimaono said.
A Representative of the Donor partners also spoke to acknowledge the graduates.
Maualaivao Maima Koro said the training will ensure sustainability and strengthening of knowledge amongst NGOs.
She compared the graduation of the ten into another level of teaching as that of a parachute, which grows and flies as it opens.Trainer of CAT, the ever popular Leaiatua Iosefa made his final address to the class emphasizing on the need to implement what they have learnt in class.
“Some of you might get the certificate, laminate and frame it and hang it on the wall and forget about what you have learnt, its important that you go forth and practice and make use of that knowledge,” Leiataua said.
The Certificates were then presented by Taugava Vaai of NUSIOT who encouraged the graduates to take up the next eight modules in Adult Teaching.
Tuitoga Poe Ualesi a representative of the graduates thanked Leiataua and the Oloamanu center for the certificates and for the new found knowledge.
The event ended with a small gathering of family and friends at the center.
