Samoan students arriving home for the end of year holidays, from scholarship studies overseas .

The arrival section of the Faleolo International Airport, is the scene of happy joyful reunion these past few weeks, for the stream of returning scholarship students and anxious parents who have not seen them in the last 12 months.
Up to 350 young Samoans are spread out in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu and the Federated States of Micronesia on scholarship studies.
Others have traveled beyond to Japan and China on sponsored education under various donor countries and international agencies.
Most of the students who study in neighbouring island countries are normally home bound for the long break at the end of the year.
Others who have ventured further out to Japan and China are mostly in for the long haul, returning only at the end the course of study, because of the big costs involved in making the trip home and back.
For the returning students, most will leave again in the new year to continue their studies, but for the others who have successfully completed, they will be gearing up for the start of new working careers next year.
The main donor countries offering educational opportunities for promising Samoan students are New Zealand and Australia.
