SCOPA's brand new $1.6 million tala Hall at Vaivase-tai

The Samoa College Old Pupils Association, SCOPA, is poised to open a $1.6 million tala hall this coming Saturday inside the school compound at Vaivase-tai.
The large building stands
two stories high. It is located Master Builder Pulepule Steve Young
behind the school’s tennis
court, on high ground
overlooking the school
buildings, and right on the boundary fronting the National University of Samoa.
The size of the building measures about 40 meters by 80 meters, and includes a conference room that overhangs the front entry, a standard multipurpose stage and a kitchen.
Open space inside the building can accommodate up to 2 thousand people.
The master builder, Pulepule Steve Young, and his team of 38 carpentry workers, took a whole year to build the hall.
“Work began in December 2006 and it was slow because of the availability of funds,” Pulepule says.
SCOPA President, Ms. Salote Lesa and her executive, rallied the support of members to raise half the budget needed for the project.
The other half was met by Government, as part of their contribution to the costs and also to use the hall as the second dinning venue for athletes and officials of the South Pacific Games, earlier in the year.
Planned celebrations on the new building starts Friday night with a ‘Po Siva’ (dancing night) before the official opening at mid-day on Saturday.
A corporate dinner is scheduled to follow in the evening, with tables for eight people going at $1,000 per table.
The Hall is by far the biggest project undertaken by SCOPA to give something back to the school.

Would the money have been better spent on improving materials and resources directly related to education - academic as opposed to the social aspects of the school? I hope the school has a modern computer lab and a library that serves the academic needs of the students. Just a thought.

well government heads should be focusing on the education for the generation of samoa. they should seek more needs on the education in order for the students and other generation of samoa to become better and smart, so they can become the next leaders in the future.
