Barry White, most requested for Valentine’s Day

“Old school” love songs are the most requested songs requested on Radio Polynesia’s Star FM during Valentines, says Cory Keil. “Barry White is still number one on Star FM.” Requests and dedications poured into Radio Polynesia’s two main radio frequencies, Star FM and Magic FM because of Valentines Day yesterday. “We have currently had a surge or requests for songs through the phones and texts.” Keil explains that the majority of the songs which people request for their sweethearts are love songs but they are not all songs from the latest ‘Top 40’ songs. Some are requesting songs from ten years ago, some from five years ago and some recent songs, stated Keil. “It doesn’t matter how old the songs are.” The two separate frequencies under Radio Polynesia caters for a different age group, with Magic FM, who plays ‘Top 40’ music, it is mainly teenagers who are listeners and making dedications and with Star FM, who’s music ranges from oldies to newbie’s in a range of genres, the age group is a little older. Keil also mentioned that it is mostly females who are calling and texting the different radio stations, however, males are getting more and more into the Valentines Day feeling. Females have always been into dedicating songs for their loved ones and sweethearts but recently Radio Polynesia has seen an increase in males also ringing up the various stations. “They are still using nicknames and pet names,” says Keil.
