MEDIA PRESSURE : SBC Chief Executive Officer, Galumalemana Faiesea Matafeo.

Published claims that staff morale is low in the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) has left the Chief Executive Officers, Galumalemana Ms. Faiesea Matafeo, to ponder possible hidden agendas behind the report.
The alleged situation comes at a time, when the SBC boss is involved in sensitive negotiations, she is spearheading in a bid by staff members to takeover the running of the Corporation, under the Government privatization policy.
“There is a lot of uncertainties in the staff right now about their jobs, so you can’t expect to find them partying or being happy all the time,” she argued.
“ Don’t forget I am also the victim of the same uncertainties, but I play that down to try and reassure the staff.
“ I try to tell them in our meetings that they should have nothing to worry about because their jobs are secure – if anyone should worry it’s me and the executive staff because they are normally the first ones to go in any new management shuffle.”
SBC currently has a staff of 35 of which 15 are involved in a staff bid to take over the running of the corporation.
“We used to have a staff of 45 but others have opted to take up the offer of redundancy pay and have since left for other jobs which is good for them”
Galumalemana admits that she ‘knows as much as anyone else’ about what Government will decide, and that the ‘kind of publicity we are getting from the press is not helping matters either.’
She did confirm that the SBC staff bid is currently under negotiations over the terms of the lease.
Newsline understands that the Government is asking for  a monthly lease of the facilities of $46,000.
The bidders however are asking for a grace period to give them time to settle in and get into stride.
“All I can say at this point is that the matter is with Cabinet.”
