CAPTION: Pearl MacFall back home for the school holidays, after her first year of studying in Australia for a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

The 19 year old beauty who threw the 2006 Miss Samoa pageant into an uproar, is back in Samoa for the school holidays after completing a first year of scholarship studies in Australia.
Pearl McFall is now a student at Victoria University in Melbourne and thankful that she is.
Pearl was crowned Miss Samoa but was forced to relinquish the title after it was found out she was 11 days short of the required minimum age of 18 years.
The pain of being stripped of the title is now replaced by the grateful wisdom of having redirected the energy into her studies, instead of the reigning Miss Samoa.
“I am glad that I did not carry out the Miss Samoa duties and it is great that I took up my scholarship. My full focus now is on my studies,”
Winning the Miss Samoa pageant would have meant putting her studies on hold for a year to take up the responsibilities involved with Miss Samoa.
Pearl was a Foundation Year student at the National University of Samoa last year, and graduated amongst the top ten students in Science.
She was awarded a full scholarship to study at Victoria University in Melbourne Australia.
“I am studying for a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Schooling overseas is a very different story to studying in Samoa especially University level.”
Pearl explains that this is the first time she has studied overseas, and it has been a great experience.
“It is so diverse in Australia, it is a different nationality and everything is just so different.”
She says that the course she is taking is male dominated, and that was another difficult factor to tackle.
“All my life I have been attending an all girls school here in Samoa (St. Mary’s College) and for this course I am the only girl so it was quite tough trying to adjust.
Eventually however, I managed to fit in and it is great because all my classmates respect me and we all share such an intimate bond now.”
Pearl encourages other students to also pursue their dreams and follow their hearts.
“Nothing is impossible through Christ who strengthens us. It is a such a wonderful life-changing experience.”
