Guest Artists Push New Music Interests In Teuila Festival

OPELOGE CLAN : Opeloge Ah Sam (centre) with music group from NZ entertaining at the teuila festival week as special guests The stirring of a traditionally passive Teuila Festival audience in open-air performances, is a challenge New Zealand Samoan composer, Opeloge Ah Sam and his visiting musical group are taking up while in Apia. The Opeloge led group made their first appearance with the police band.on Sunday night at the choir presentation to officially launch the weeklong Teuila Festival. Last night they were scheduled for a Music Night at Hotel Kitano Tusitala, with guest appearances by popular local singing talents. Opeloge holds a doctorate degree in music and orchestral music is where holds academic distinction. He is a member of a jazz group in Auckland going under the name The Masque Quartet, who are part of the here with him. “I have to add a few more people to our group for the trip to Apia in place of a full orchestra of 50 people, to expand on our musical repertoire,” he said in a meeting with the local media. Opeloge and his group has been working with the Police Band and also the National Orchestra since they arrived. ‘The experience on both occasions have been humbling for us but very enjoyable.” The group is expected to feature in the planned entertainment during the Miss Samoa pageant at the weekend.
