Tupai Bruno of the Magic Circus of Samoa
Misa commends Bruno and crew
The Magic Circus of Samoa is all about fun tricks and magical acts.
But to ringmaster Tupa’i Bruno, there is nothing more magical then seeing his circus brings unity amongst people not only in Samoa but also in other countries they perform in.
“The Magic Circus of Samoa has brought people together, in Samoa and other parts of the world where we have performed,” Tupa’i told Newsline this week.
He said New Caledonia was one place the Magic Circus of Samoa help unite.
“When we first got there [New Caledonia],” he said. “There were a lot of racial divisions between the Kanaki people [locals], the Polynesians and the white French people.
“It was shocking to see that even when people came to watch the circus they just sat amongst their own races.”
But that soon changed thanks largely to the humor and magic his circus brought.
“People started to sit together and be united through the Magic Circus of Samoa. Everybody laughed and enjoyed the show together, despite their racial differences. That was the most incredible act of all.”
Tupa’i and the Magic Circus of Samoa was congratulated by deputy prime minister, Misa Telefoni in Parliament last week for its part played in promoting Samoa to the outside world.
Tupa’i said he wasn’t aware of it (Misa’s comments) but it’s a humbling experience to be recognized in the highest level in his own country.
“I believe it [the Magic Circus of Samoa] promotes Samoa in a very positive way,” he said. “Our show is a clean family show which gives people a very good impression of Samoa.”
He also believes that the Samoans performing in the circus are also boosting the profile of the country.
“It shows that people do not have to be from Soviet training camps in Cuba to do incredible circus acts, you can be from Samoa and be a circus star.
He said audiences around the world really applaud the Samoans performing incredible acts in the circus such as Kalama, the first Samoan in the Globe of Death, or the fantastic clowns Toetu and Coconut that do a great job too.
“These boys and girls demonstrate high quality abilities of Samoans,” he commended.
Tupai also says that everywhere the circus go they fly the Samoan flag and with it tagged the “clean family show” aura which makes it appealing to all sectors of any society they visited including Samoa.
“That’s what’s really lacking nowadays. A place that generates a good family shows where you can take your kids to have a good time and enjoy.”
Tupai confirmed that the circus will be extending its stay for five extra days.
“We will be here, starting from Wednesday (today) to Sunday. We know that there are still so many people out there that want to come see the circus but due to the rough weather some of them were unable to make it.”
He says the response from the public has been fantastic and this year has been even better because the acts have all been changed so everything is different.
He adds that overall it has been a very magical show; it was a lot of fun and a great time for everyone.
He says the Magic Circus of Samoa, has some very big plans ahead.
“Next year, the Magic Circus of Samoa, will not be coming here, because we will be extending our route this year. However, we will be getting a full brass band to play during the circus with recruits from local bands.
There will also be more training; we will be getting a larger tent and an amazing trapeze act.
The best thing about is that it will be an 85% Samoan circus show.
There will be world class teachers coming so the next show will be completely different.”
He says the highlight of the acts will be the Human Cannon Ball.
“You will actually see the first Samoan in history being shot out of a cannon gun into a net.”
