A lot is to be expected from this years Miss South Pacific pageant if the plan laid out by the Chief Executive Officer Sonja Hunter falls into place.
Not only will the international media be covering the event and programs such as Tagata Pasifika from New Zealand but a Polynesian dancing group all the way from Hawaii will be here to provide lessons for the contestants and anyone else who is interested.
“Tihati Productions are famous in Hawaii for teaching Polynesian dancing, it is great that they are going to be here. Not only will they be teaching the girls (contestants) but the public is also welcome to come and get lessons,” says Hunter.
An events management team from Tihati’s Productions will also be conducting a seminar on Thursday to explain why Hawaii attracts so many tourists with dancing and how Samoa can do the same.
“A $50 registration fee to the seminar is required which includes food and lessons.”
Aggie Greys Hotel is the official hotel for the contestants this year, and the official carrier is Polynesian Blue, explains Hunter.
The theme for this year’s pageant is ‘Strong Islands, Strong Future’ and according to Hunter this is helping the South Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) to promote the importance of the environment.
She says that the pageant is going to be held at the EFKS Hall, Sogi and admission is $50, tickets are available on sale at Visitors Bureau.
She says that a lot of international media will also be covering the event.
“Cook Islands TV is going to be here, Maori TV and Tagata Pasifika, so we are very confident that by next year we will be working alongside a television company to further develop here.”
She says that this a great opportunity especially since there is so much potential in Samoan ladies with their creativity, originality.
The night promises to be full of entertainment from various performers.
