Caption: Former Miss Samoa Poinsettia Taefu

Ex-Miss SamoaIt is quite a surprise that even almost a month after giving away her title as the Miss Samoa after she had successfully ended her reign and farewelled Samoa, Poinsettia Taefu remains a key figure in the Samoa Tourism Authority activities especially in the build up to Miss South Pacific.
“I am still very busy, and doing a lot of marketing work for the STA,” says the 21 year old former beauty queen..
She says that although her reign has officially ended she is obliged to remain in contact and help STA wherever possible..
Poinsettia also revealed to Newsline the glamour and advantages of being the Miss Samoa.
“It was really a golden opportunity for me. I enjoyed every part of it. Its interesting in so many ways. I met so many inspiring individuals such as the Head of State, His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, the Honorable Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and the Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark.”
She added that being Miss Samoa was a life changing experience and there are way too many highlights she could not just pick one.
“It would be unfair to say that one particular event was greater than the other, everywhere I went I was treated well, pampered to say the least. I am appreciative for everyone’s kindness to me during my reign, it was overwhelming.”
She says that the most important factor was learning about the Samoan culture.
“There was so much about the culture I did not know about. This was an amazing opportunity to learn so much about. I have grown to be even more proud of my Samoan heritage and culture. The culture is the most defining aspect of my life now.”
Prior to the Miss Samoa, Poinsettia says she had never performed a Ava Ceremony.
Now she has already been a taupou in many ava ceremonies for a lot of overseas delegations.
She says that the new Miss Samoa Sherry Elekana is also perfect for the title.
“I admire her, she is a great individual like all the other girls, she has a lot to share with the rest of the world. I wish her all the best for the Miss South Pacific pageant.”
She says she only hopes that Sherry will find as much delight as she did while she was Miss Samoa.
“The Miss South Pacific is also very tough, but if she can also find enjoyment in it then it should be a lot of  fun for her. Its not always about winning, its about sharing your culture and what you stand for to the rest of the world, so that they may be appreciative of it.”
She says she is relieved that it has ended but she there are many aspects of her reign that she will miss.
“I will miss it very much, but I too must move on with my life and try and pursue all my dreams and goals that were put on hold.”
Poinsettia has every intention of finishing her education at the National University of Samoa.
“I have one year remaining until I complete my Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Management and marketing as a minor. I really want to become a marketing consultant and a designer.”
Poinsettia encourages other young girls to also participate in the pageant.
“There are various benefits, and so many travel opportunities, you also get the chance to meet so many influential individuals.”
She says now she will help Sherry settle in and familiarize her with her new environment then she is off to pursue her goals.
“I am glad it is over, now I will go back to my normal life and try and accomplish my dreams. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me achieve this and stood by me throughout the year.”

Hey Pointy - heard you were in the US... if so, call us or come by for a visit in Southern California... You don't remember me, I'm sure, but you're actually my family's neighbor in Vaigaga... I'm the guy from the USA that came down to visit a few times... glad you won the pageant... I was in Samoa the year before you ran for Ms. Samoa and you came over to hang out with my nieces. The first time I saw you I told my cousins that you should run for Miss Samoa.... and then you did and actually WON... that was cool! Good luck and keep in touch!
