Samoa's latest singing sensation
The winner of Star Search 2007 and new singing sensation, Kalepo Pupualii, is confident that success as a singer is just around the corner for him.
The winner of the solo category believes wholeheartedly in what he is capable of accomplishing, in his singing career.
Kalepo maybe a local celebrity but insists that he is indeed the same person and that nothing will ever change.
“I was a student of Tourism and Hospitality and therefore I know how each person has different needs, which is why I am working on a new approach for my album,” says Kalepo
“My objective is to concentrate on developing my musical strength, so that I have the aptitude to cater for all audiences.
“This is an entirely new career path for me and therefore I want to make sure that I do this the right way, in regards to awareness through all musical aspects such as ‘copyrighting’ and so forth. But most importantly I just want to concentrate on making sure I satisfy all my audiences both locally and overseas.”
Music was already a family passion when Kalepo grew up. His father and uncles once had a band they called the Lion Band.
This is where he was inspired into the musical scene and where he now intends to earn a living in a follow on to his Star Search success.
“I was automatically attracted to music through my family and relatives, and also provided the motivation”.
Kalepo believes that singing can be done by anyone. He knows that once you establish a love for music you start to learn and continue on to where you want to be with your music.
Kalepo left for New Zealand on Wednesday last week, to put together his first compact disc album at Samoa’s Post studio as part of his Start Search winning prize package.
He is confident in the lineup of songs he plans to record for the album.
He was critical however of previous Star Search winners who rushed off to New Zealand unprepared and ended up with their albums enjoying little success.
For his part he has made sure that he is ready to give his music 100% so he can give something back worthy of his fans and supporter in Samoa.
Kalepo plans to dedicate his first album to his late uncle, Rev. Kalepo Puapualii, as well as his fans.
While music is his current passion for the moment, it is leisure time to enjoy while it lasts. His longterm hopes is for a career in shipping or sailing.
“I believe anything is possible if you give it your all, and to never forget those who helped you get where you are.”
