The newly crowned Miss South Pacific, Tonga’s Tessi Leila Toluta’u, was more preoccupied with the excitement of the pageant to think about winning, when the moment came.
“This was very unexpected,” she confessed, while still coming to grasp with the emotions of being voted the most beautiful in the region.
The 20 year old’s win was popular with the huge crowd that filled the Congregational Christian Church Youth hall. the biggest in Apia.
Out of the eight categories the contestants were judged on, she won five; Miss Tourism Award, Best Traditional Wear; Best Sarong; Best Interview; Best Talent.
Miss New Zealand International claimed Miss Photogenic, Miss Personality went to Miss Australia and Miss Internet to Miss Samoa.
“I want to thank my heavenly Father for the opportunity,“she says while vowing also to b return “to work with the Visitors Bureau in Tonga.”
The Hawaiian based dancer for the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Laie, praised the promotional value of the pageant for the region.
“This is a good way of promoting the beauty of the Pacific Islands and the women.”
The crowned beauty had a message for all the young women as well.
“I want all young ladies to know you are beautiful inside and outside no matter what you look like.”

man wat da hell is happening 1st rugby league,than rugby union in the world cup now the miss south pacific lol...samoa wats going on man ok im just a too proud samoan congrats to miss tonga....

its all good darling. This must be Tonga's year. After all, Samoa has been in the limelight many more times. Never know next year might be Samoa's year for everything.

The funny thing is we in the Pacific Islands are all competitive when we compete amongst ourselves but in majorly international events, it is funny how we all vouch for each other and hope at least one of our Pacific Islands teams or people make it to the top...lol

go Tonga and go samoa.

This is good that the winner is not from the host country, at least to impugn the notion that the pageant always favors the local contestant, hence rigged.

lol im such a proud hamo man yeah u r rite we have had da limelight for many years thats wat makes us more stubborn we otha island peps win....its called ele masagi lol...or is it bein just a sore loser lol...nah all kood we da bomb anyways congrats to tonga

Haha so dumb how people always assume that a pageant is rigged if someone who has any sort of connection to someone/something involved in the pageant is rigged!

Get over it already!!!! Just believe that there is fair judging in this world ahaha.

I know no1 said this pageant was rigged but just the mention of the word puts me off!
