The warning call for contaminated milk products sold under a Chinese/New Zealand label has waned since a recent search in Apia found none on any of the shop shelves.
The search also discovered that none of the locals import from the company involved or any of their products.
“But that doesn’t mean we should not always be cautious or aware of the risks and take responsibility for our own safety,” a Ministry of Health senior executive reminded.
What worries the health officials the most are inbound travelers hand carrying the contaminated products into the country without their knowing about the risks involved.

The added concern is when overseas based relatives in countries that stock the affected products, send home to Samoa food stuff that may include these contaminated dairy goods.
“This is where we have to be extra vigilant,” says the Ministry spokesperson, “if you get any dairy products sent over by relatives in New Zealand, Australia of the US that you are unsure of, bring them in for us to check.”
The products are at risk from Chinese contaminated milk because of a chemical known as melamine. The presence of melamine has already killed several infants and caused kidney complications for several infants in China.
Popular milk flavoured products are susceptible and several have been identified in New Zealand where the local Health Ministry spokesperson is worried about how easily any of those products end up with families in Samoa.

Chinese products
written by Plato, November 20, 2008
The U S has already set up testing site in Your Friendly China to check foods that is exported to other countries.
But thats good considering the US doesn't do anything for Samoa. You'd rather drive down the wrong side of the road to help your Chinese friends sell their cars. If I were you I'd be very careful about those buildings theyre building in Samoa, They might come crumbling down on you some day. also check the paint. Its probably full of lead and will cause cancer for you and your kids. God Help Samoa
